Our professional treatment for hyperhidrosis uses Botox injections to drastically reduce sweating.
Minute quantities of Botox are injected under the armpits, providing a simple, safe, nonsurgical solution with no long-term side effects.
Botulinum toxin, is a natural, purified protein, produced by the bacterium Clostridium Botulinum. It is highly effective for the prevention of underarm sweating. Used in minute quantities, administered through tiny injections, the medication works by blocking the nerve endings controlling the treated area's sweat glands.
The toxin works by blocking the transition of chemical messages sent from the nerve to the muscle which would ordinarily cause the gland to open and sweat. While these messages are suppressed, the muscle remains relaxed, reducing the activity of the sweat glands.
Botox is by no means a cure for hyperhidrosis. Sweating will progressively return as the medication wears off. It is an effective, preventative measure, which lasts for six to nine months at a time.
A local anaesthetic cream can be applied before the treatment for increased comfort, as the armpits can be quite sensitive. A very fine needle is used for the injections.
The entire process is completed in approximately 60 minutes.
The temporary side effects of the procedure should only last a few days and may include swelling, bruising and redness/tenderness.
You will start to notice reduced sweating within 2 or 3 days. The full effects set in after 3 to 10 days and typically last for six to nine months. We generally recommend renewing the treatment once or twice per year, depending on your results, to maintain the effect indefinitely.
